The ACS recognizes the TGH Level I Trauma Center for its dedication to providing optimal care for adults and children, as well as its demonstrated commitment to education, research and community outreach. A review team from the ACS, consisting of nationally recognized experts in trauma care, performed an in-depth, on-site assessment of every aspect of TGH’s trauma program.

We were the first hospital in Florida to achieve national Level I Trauma Center verification from the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Tampa General Hospital is the only Level I Trauma Center in West Central Florida providing treatment to adult and pediatric patients with critical injuries. Commitment to Disaster PreparednessĪn important aspect of Suburban as a Regional Trauma Center is its commitment to disaster preparedness. Although we are not a burn center, we are also capable of providing emergency care to burn victims prior to their transport to a specialty burn unit. As an adult trauma center, Suburban also has the expertise needed to stabilize critically injured children prior to their transfer to a pediatric trauma center. They mostly include victims of motor vehicle crashes, falls, industrial accidents or acts of violence. Our trauma patients arrive via ambulance or via Maryland State Police Medevac helicopters. Our Trauma Center sees approximately 1500 trauma patients annually, serving primarily Montgomery County but also the surrounding Frederick and Prince George’s counties. As such, we are committed to providing the best possible trauma care to all seriously injured trauma patients. It is verified as a Level II Trauma Center, one of only four hospitals in Maryland given that recognition by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems. Suburban Hospital is the only designated trauma center in Montgomery County.
